Star How to make your colorpeal (or blingball) look better

Ever have the backlight auto off turned on, and your colorpearl looked really nice and dark blue, and then all of a sudden, the lighting conditions get low, and the pearl looks like baby blue!

Or perhaps when you go to show someone how cool your 'red' colorpearl looks, and instead of it looking like someone's blood is cursing through it - it looks Pink instead!?

Do you hate these moments?
I have a solution, regardless of lighting conditions...

I now have 4.5 running on my 8100 with a great precision L theme, and therefore have blingball running instead of the legend, colorpearl.

I usually leave the colors for my red, blue, and green nice and low, because I didn't like how bright the ball can get with all the flavours cranked up. However, when the lights are bright outside and the sensor detects this, it shuts off the white led, leaving my pearl a nice rich hue of whatever colour combination is running. I especially hated it when the white led turned on when lighting conditions changed, and tried finding a way to keep it off.

MY SOLUTION:

I used my nails to pop off the silver ring around the pearl, and the trackball. It's neat looking at the 4 led's in such a small area, emitting so much brightness. However, white must go.

I carefully snipped a piece of electrical tape, approximately 2mm squared and used tweezers to position it directly on top of the white led. This is easy to remove in the future, and does not effect the precision, tactile feedback, audible click, or performance of the trackball.

I attach the trackball and silver ring back on, and VOILA! Now if I set my blue at a '7' or so, it appears this nice stealthy, yet attractive dark blue, add a little red, and you have a deep purple, HECK, even green looks cool just by itself around a level '2' or '3'. Looks like a green goblin meets the hulk colour.

some of you will say: It will drain battery life. It looks cool with the white. I like lamp.

However, it drains the exact same battery as without the tape, so the only reason you wouldn't do it is because you like the bright, colour-washing-out-capabilities of the white led.

Try it out!
