Smile Count me a YES

I've had my Storm for just about three days, and so far, I love it! I've only had lengthly experience with an 8830, had the 8330 for a few days and I can't stand SureType on a Pearl. I'm not a RIM guru, my background is in Palm devices, from my original III to my Zire 72. I like the Storm because it is exactly what I was wishing my Zire could be. The screen is BEAUTIFUL. I'm still fumbling through the virtual keypad but I like the click response better than that of the iPhone (I'm very heavy-handed). Love the music player, and I'm still learning which video formats work with it.

My main gripe is with the camera software. Looking at the specs, the on-board camera should be taking way better pics and video, so I blame the software, which is usually the case with some higher-end pda phones. I was a regular shooter with my LG enV and much of my vacation/travel pix were taken with it with decent results. I hope that a 3rd party camera app gets developed or RIM decides to tackle the issue itself.

I gotta get used to profiles. A lot of flexibility/customization options, but why can't I just raise and lower the volume like any other phone?

Love the browser. considering I've been living in WAP world on my enV, this is new sense of freedom. Not as robust as the desktop browser experience, but I'm still impressed at what I can do without lugging around a laptop.

Speaking of which, Mobile Broadband is the bomb. My 8830 nevere provided laptop internet as snappy.

Oh, yeah, unless I'm not getting it, I only have 9 speed dials?

Reading around, there seems to be a lot of gripes about the storm in terms of stability and usability. But I myself haven't noticed anything horrible yet (besides the camera). Text input isn't as snappy as a Curve or anything with a physical keypad, but it's still miles better than Grafitti or anything that requires a stylus that I'm goint to get tired of losing.

Audio quality is good, but I've spent more type playing with it than using it for phone calls. Again, love the music player. I can surf the web and listen to music!

Software selection seems thin, but I just started looking. I haven't tried any games. I do like the little app that locks the screen while on a call. Is there a way to autolock the screen after a timeout, like any other phone?

So, for now, consider me a fan and YES, I recommend it. I'll let y'all know if that changes.
