Using smartview to connect my 8330 to my netbok, I get this (error 678) when trying to connect...can anyone assist me with this? thanks in advance

you have been shut down to sprint finding out about the tethering. They have swept through the system and cancelled the smartview tethering. You will need to tether through tetherberry.com to get it to work. which by the way works awesome. And yes it is 50 dollars One time fee, but hey you could always pay sprint 15 dollars a month now for phone as modem capability.

I see some "crazy" characters that I have NO IDEA how to duplicate on my keyboard. Is this really how it is supposed to look, or did i miss something?

It is entirely possible I am just ignorant to this whole process... my apologies for my lack of knowledge on the subject. That said... someone PLEASE help me! I'm a Verizon user and I'd love to tether my BB to my computer for data/internet access.

just get the tetherberry application. You will be much happier. SO EASY TO USE, and if you catch them at the right time, you can only pay 25 dollars like i did. best 25 dollars i spent in ages.
