Default Data / Wi-Fi

I just recently got the Curve 8900 and still getting familiarized with it. I know it has Wi-Fi but I'm worried I will get charged by my Provider (Fido) since I don't have a data plan.
When I go into "Manage Connections" and into "Mobile Network Options" and turn "Data Services" off it doesn't allow me to use Wi-Fi at all even though I'm connected to Wireless .

Note: bought the phone from the States it's an AT&T phone.

If anyone can enlighten me on this subject your help is greatly appreciated

turning data services off will do just that... turn it off... no data will transmit on wireless carrier or wifi... if you dont have a data plan then there is no way to transmit data... so you can leave that on... fido will not charge you as you need a data plan... hope that made sense
