YES on the Storm, if you can handle the ride...
The Storm is a departure from the traditional, keyboard-based Blackberry, to sacrifice physical keys to offer more display. It's touchscreen/data entry mechanism is also different than other Smartphones due to the SurePress thingy. These alone could turn off previous smartphone users unless they spend more time to break away from how they have been accustomed to using their previous phones.
I'm at around my 30-day Storm usage and still loving the Storm. I have had the BB 7100T before, so I'm pretty well versed with what Blackberry could offer. I also have had a Windows Mobile touchscreen HTC Titan/XV6800. In general, I believe the Storm is a completely different phone (innovative hardware, might I say?) and has a lot of potentials to becoming an awesome phone.
The current OS fiasco is unfortunate. And many existing BB apps would require some effort by the developers to make them work well on the Storm. Of the available apps on the Storm, some are still buggy. But this is quite common with any newly designed smartphone. The good news is that all these will improve over time.
So, if you're up for a bit of an adventure, I'd say go for the Storm. If you're expecting to have everything to work right from the start, stick with a traditional Blackberry (Curve is a great choice).
BTW, my wife also has the Storm. As a non-techie, she's loving it for what she uses it for (IM, emails, weather and phone calls). She has accepted the occasional reboots and refused to have me upgrade the OS, unless the new OS is an official release.
