Default Lost SMS

Has anybody else had an issue of lost SMS and MMS messages?

I had the problem on my Pearl and now, on my Curve. Once in a while, my inbox for SMS/MMS will randomly disappear - with the exception of those that were saved to my SIM card. If I send an SMS, it won't stay in the message list. If I get one, once I read it, it vanishes.

Any thoughts?

I did that... its keeping messages for 30 days.

Its odd though - once I read any given SMS, it will disappear on its own once the status goes from "unread" to "read."

And I've played around with the themes, just to make sure it wasn't something indirectly related to theme I'm using (I have my SMS inbox seperated from the main message inbox).

I found the issue...

It wasn't a lack of available memory, but a BES issue with service books. According to my IT guys, there was a problem with the OTA dowload of service books that caused all SMS to be deleted from the device.

Now that its corrected, all my "vanished" messages have reappeared

As far as the 8830, you need to go to your messages folder, hit menu (blackberry key), general options, then towards the bottom, it gives you the option for "seperate folders." change it from combined or theme controlled to seperate if you want a seperate SMS/MMS folder. Mind you, it is theme controlled; if the theme you are using does not have the SMS/MMS folder included, it will not appear.

Also, following up to the issue that I had - come to find out, its a memory leak issue, not a service book issue... known issue for the curve

------------------------------
Messages on BlackBerry Curve 8300 smartphone are deleted due to low memory

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doc ID : KB13814
Last Modified : 2007-07-25
Document Type : Support
Environment

BlackBerry® Curve™ 8300 smartphone
BlackBerry® Device Software 4.2.2
SDR131839

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem
Email messages, personal identification number (PIN) messages and Short Message Service (SMS) messages are deleted due to low memory on the BlackBerry smartphone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause
Summary of Causes
This issue may be caused by the following:

The Application Switcher on the BlackBerry smartphone is setting itself as a system listener and is not being removed.
Switching between two applications on the BlackBerry smartphone using ALT+ESC about 25 times will cause a memory leak. From this point on, switching applications on the BlackBerry smartphone will cause an hourglass to appear for an extended period of time, which causes a large decrease in memory on the BlackBerry smartphone.
This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Workaround
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions,
To perform a hard reset on all other BlackBerry devices

Remove the battery cover.
Remove and reinsert the battery to reset the BlackBerry device.
Replace the battery cover.
