Probably dust got behind it. Try cleaning it with a peace of paper or alcohol and even aircan. But try scrolling it hard up and down right to left and it should clear up a bit

If you make it a habit of keeping your device in your pocket, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the removal of your trackball for cleaning. Once you do it the first time, it's easy after that. I don't know how peter feels about linking on his site, so I'll just suggest doing a search for "step by step trackball removal and cleaning".

the silver ring is easy to remove it pops out, take a round tooth pick (won't scratch face) and pry the right then left side remove ring the ball annd its housing will easily pop/pull out (pay attention to the orientation of housing / important for re-inserting) take toothpick clean contacts on circuit board. Blow without spitting into the hole. Re-isert housing, firmly press silver ring. clean the lil ball before you put it back I used vinegar a lil salt and dish soap worked great the salt acts like a abrasive , make sure it is dry befor re-instaslling All good!

It's just like the old trackballs of a computer mouse before they developed the optical mouse that is. A little cleaning with piece of paper or cotton should do the trick.

Can the trackball for the Bold be removed as easilly as that?. This model doesn't have the silver ring around it in the same way as on the other models, and so it seems that i have to disarm the entire device to get to the track ball...Anyway...i have sort of the same problem here and there but it tends to loosing up after i make a few movments as Mr. Guru describes. Wherever the case, on e-bay are many shops for OEM trackballs...and with differents colors as well.

Good luck to us all!!!

Nah, on the Bold its a little harder to pull out. Youtube has some videos that will show you how to do it. At your own risk though.
