One thing I'm somewhat worried about, is that just before I start the upgrade through DM, I see a big message at the top of the screen indicating that I'll have to reactivate my phone. Is that normal for this or should I be worried? Also, I noticed that the theme manager is being uninstalled. Does it replace the theme manager or will any themes that I have already (default ones and the Precision Zen from this site) no longer work?

The messages are as follows:

Warning: After completing the loading operation, you must activate your device to continue to send and receive messages and use other BlackBerry services. If you do not want to continue with this loading operation, press cancel.

and

Unrecognized modules that will be removed:
com_plazmic_themereader

Any thoughts?

4. If you have an Operating System version that is not designed for your phone specifically (like a beta OS) than MAKE SURE TO DELETE the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Very important!
i am upgrading to "8100 4.5.0.69" from what-ever the factory default is, must i delete the "vendor.xml" as well??

Install the OS that you downloaded? Can someone clarify? I've downloaded 4.5.0.69 from here and did what the tutorial said to, but I wasn't prompted to upgrade. Do I have to install the OS onto my blackberry? I dunno how to install it onto my phone..I just have it on my desktop waiting...help please?

Do you have Blackberry Desktop manager installed? You need that installed in order to upgrade your BB OS. Once it's installed, install the OS 4.5 (leave your BB disconnected) and when it asks if you want to start desktop manager, don't start it. Then move the vendor.xml from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader to somewhere else (I just moved it to my desktop).

From there, connect your BB, and run the desktop manager. It should see that you've got updates. (The 4.5 OS comes with "Documents 2 Go" which is nice). You can go through what's gonna be installed, and add/remove items from there. Pretty much leave it as is.

Once you click next, the update will start. It'll take about 20-30 minutes for the entire process to complete (unless your PC is sloooooooooooow).

Once the upgrade is complete, your phone will "re-activate", but other than that, it should work like it did before, only newer OS.

I hope that's not too confusing
