Once you download the new OS to your computer do this:

1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager (If there is one)

2. Install the new handheld OS you downloaded on your computer.

3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary every time an OS is installed from a different carrier other than what is branded on your BB.)

4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

PS: Just in case, back up your data so you dont loose anything.

Default vendor.xml file

So, just to be clear. If installing an OS upgrade from your BB's branded carrier - from their site, then you DO NOT have to delete vendor.xml?

So I just installed the newest os on my bb from the AT&T website.. and after all the applications loaded.. my phone isnt booting.. it just kinda sits there with the hour glass turning. I also deleted the vendor.xml file before the upgrade.. did that mess things up? .. and i also got impatient and did a battery pull after all the applications finished loading when my phone wasnt booting. Now i dont know what do to =(.

my phone takes about 5-10 minutes to fully boot up. if you just let it go, does it get to the home screen at all?
