Question BB OS Upgrade - HELP!

Ok...I am attempting to take my 8830 BB and upgrade to OS 4.5 downloaded from Vodofone in Germany...the device is not currently activated (thus I felt safe in attempting this upgrade) and it is a Verizon handset...

The only updated application the desktop manager prompts me for is the Blackberry Maps everytime I follow the steps outlined at the beginning of this thread.

What in the world am I missing? I am sure it's operator error and probably something really stupid that I'm missing...I'd really appreciate some help on this one though because it's got me stumped!

Once you download the new OS to your computer do this:

1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager (If there is one)

2. Install the new handheld OS you downloaded on your computer.

3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary every time an OS is installed from a different carrier other than what is branded on your BB.)

4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

PS: Just in case, back up your data so you dont loose anything.

Hello, I have an 8330 curve with verizon as my carrier. Is there a 4.5 version for the 8330 or should I try the 8320 version. This is a new phone and I don't want to loose my usage.

Thanks

Start out by finding the newest Operating System. Once the "official" versions are released (most stable ones) they can be found here. You can find beta versions on eVeek and just about anywhere else, but these are not guarunteed to be awesome but a bit buggy. I've listed some betas I've found below Anyhow, once you've got it follow these simple steps

1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager (unless you already got it)

2. Just in case anything happens...go ahead and backup everything on your phone at this time. Use Desktop Manager to do so

3. Install the new handheld OS you downloaded on your computer.

4. If you have an Operating System version that is not designed for your phone specifically (like a beta OS) than MAKE SURE TO DELETE the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader. Very important!

The rest is cake, plug in the BlackBerry with the usb cable, and fire up Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade, just follow the on-screen instructions

PS: Desktop Manager and your phone will work together to upgrade your phone. It takes a LONG TIME (like an hour) so go watch TV or watch the grass grow :yipi:

BlackBerry Betas/Unofficial/Almost Official Operating System Downloads

Make sure to download the version that is for YOUR phone model! Ex. 8310 OS is NOT for 8300!!!!

mine takes forever just to do like one thing. it takes like a few minutes for a menu to load or change the theme.
